Nora and Randy DeForest were ready for a change in their mid-1990’s Scottsdale home. After talking to friends, checking with the Better Business Bureau, Kudzu, Yelp and Angie’s List, they narrowed their contractor list to three. They interviewed the three, including Patrick Benkowski, CR, owner of Roadrunner Custom Remodeling. “After doing our due diligence, we found Patrick to be the easiest to work with,??? Nora said. “I think a lot of what he has to offer is part of his Midwestern values. He is one of those very good people who is going to do right in his work.??? Nora described their home as a “typical 90’s house – oak cabinets and two-tone fixtures in the bathroom.??? Remodeling the bathrooms were first on their list of projects.
Benkowski offered the DeForests cost cutting measures that would result in the bathrooms they wanted, but for a better price than they expected. “For instance, Patrick suggested we use granite remnants from the vanity tops rather than buying a whole new slab,??? Nora said. “We saved a lot by doing that. We also got really nice cabinets that were semi-custom instead of custom.??? Because the bathroom remodels went so well, the DeForestsselected Roadrunner to do the next remodeling job – their kitchen.
Nora said they had planned to update the kitchen and leave the layout intact. But Benkowski again made suggestions to slightly change the floor plan, and the DeForests ended up with “a really nice kitchen that we love.??? Both remodeling projects went well, according to Nora. Both bathrooms were remodeled within a two-week period. The kitchen took slightly longer due to material availability for the backsplash tile. “What we really liked about Patrick and his crew was how they handled unexpected things,??? Nora said. “If an issue came up, they would give us a solution.???
She said communication was “excellent.??? And they were great at problem solving. We always knew what was going on.??? She added that humor added to the service provided by Patrick and his staff. “Remodeling is not an easy thing to do,??? Nora said. “But these guys kept it light and made it kind of fun. It was an enjoyable process overall.??? While the DeForests don’t have other projects in their current home to give to Roadrunner, they are considering buying a different home. “If we do that, we know who we are calling to do any remodeling,??? Nora said. “And we have recommended Roadrunner to numerous people. We are very, very happy with the work they did.???
