What this office does:
- Regulates construction contractors by providing a licensing and regularity system for residential and commercial contractors designed to protect the health, safety and welfare of the public. Only projects that do not require a building permit and cost less than $750 in labor, materials and all other items may be performed by a person who is not licensed.
- Offers financial protection, through its Residential Contractors Recovery Fund, to residential consumers who use licensed contractors.
- Complaints: These are filed with the Registrar of Contractors because of poor workmanship, unfulfilled contracts and agreements, deceptive advertising, and violation of safety or labor laws. Complaints from home owners who hired unlicensed individuals are not eligible for help from the Registrar of Contractors.
- Warning: Protect yourself against scams and substandard work. Even if a contractor shows you a license, confirm that the license is valid. To do this, visit roc.az.gov or call (602) 542-1525 or, if outside Maricopa County, call 1-888-271-9286.
