Master Bathroom Bathtub to Shower Conversion – 45

Master Bathroom Bathtub to Shower Conversion – 45

This homeowner had a standard size bathtub that was sunken in the floor of their Master Bathroom with a large window and privacy wall. This was a feature in the 70’s and 80’s that seemed like a romantic idea at the time, but isn’t really practical in today’s world. The reality is that a sunken bathtub is dangerous and quite difficult to get out of. The large window right next to you while you are taking a shower getting wet every day also leads to rotted framing which is what we usually find when we tear into it, and that was the case here.

We had the challenge of creating a “Flush Floor” shower and replacing the large window with a smaller window at the top of the opening. We oftentimes get this request to exchange these large windows in a shower for a smaller more practical window. To do this we had to pull out the window, repair the wall by adding insulation, drywall, stucco, and paint to make the final project seamless along the outside and inside of the home.

Once we finished the installation of the new smaller window, we got to work on building the walk-in “Flush Floor” shower. The homeowner wanted a unique style with a half wall to hide clutter in the shower. After bringing up the sunken floor to be flush with the rest of the bathroom flooring, We built the half “pony” wall and finished building the shower. To reduce costs, the homeowners chose Granitex solid surface finish. To add a bit of pizzaz, we installed a custom tile deco band that coordinates with the bathroom.

Basic brushed nickel fixtures were chosen for a clean timeless look and to match the remainder of the bathroom that had been previously remodeled. After the entire shower was completed, the Homeowner selected a unique “Privacy Stripe” glass shower enclosure that allowed for great lighting while giving the user some privacy behind a strip of etched glass.
