This is a typical Phoenix area master bathroom with typical cheap builder-grade materials and a typical problem; wasted space. This couple liked the layout of their bathroom but didn’t like the wasted space from the bathtub that was never used. What they wanted was a larger walk-in shower that was easier and safer to step in and out of.
To solve this problem, we discussed options with the homeowners and came up with a solution. Because their bathtub was in front of a large window, we had to come up with a plan for that. They decided it wasn’t necessary to have such a large window, so we took out the window, seamlessly repaired the open space to match the home, and created a small glass block window above the shower. This not only let in enough light, but it also opened up the space to allow for a larger shower.
Once the window was resized, we began building the shower. We tore out the old bathtub and shower combo to build a larger footprint. We built the shower large enough to include a bench seat for ease of use. Instead of tile, the homeowners chose Granitex to save money and make their shower low maintenance. They chose stylish oil-rubbed bronze plumbing fixtures for contrast against the grey tones of the bathroom and the frameless glass.
Because of the new shower footprint, a portion of the flooring needed to be repaired where the old tub was. The homeowners were happy with the newer grey plank floor tile that they installed previously, so we installed new matching tiles for a seamless bathroom floor. We finished off their master bathroom with a recessed LED light above the newly installed shower.
The finished result was a beautiful AND functional master bathroom for these homeowners. If you are frustrated with your bathroom and want to convert your unused bathtub to a larger standing shower, give us a call to discuss your options.
